| The 24th Special Tactics Squadron is one of the Special Tactics units of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). Based at Pope Air Force Base the 24th STS is primarily tasked with Search and Rescue/Recovery Operations and is part of the AFSOC portion of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). The 24th STS responded to the downing of a US Army helicopter in Mogadishu. The squadron has been heavily involved in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. |
